Let’s get to know about coronary revascularization: Complicated Surgical Procedure

Coronary revascularization is the process of restoring the blood flow to the heart. The surgical procedure involves introducing the new blood vessels around existing blockages which restores necessary blood flow to the cardiac muscle. Once the blood flow is re-introduced normal heart function may return in time.

Off-pump Coronary Revascularization Surgery

This is one of the new methods to eliminate the use of the heart-lung bypass machine in this technique heart continues to beat while the part of surgery is alone being stabilized.

The people who are benefited from the off-pump surgery include:

  • The patients who are over 70 years old
  • The patients with kidney and lung diseases
  • The patients with risk of stroke or carotid artery disease

Transmyocardial Revascularization (TMR)

The procedure to relieve the severe chest pain (angina) in very ill patients who are not suitable for bypass surgery or angioplasty. Usually, a small incision is made in the left breast to expose the heart muscles from outside.

Surgery and Infection-Mystery behind neurosurgery!

According to a recent study, the thing is that neurosurgery could spread protein linked to Alzheimer's disease.

According to a recent study, the thing is that neurosurgery could spread protein linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Certain researchers found that there may be rare chances for the cause of Alzheimer’s disease through certain proteins associated with the instruments in surgery. Surgical instruments used in neuro operations should be ensured that they are not contaminated with proteins related to Alzheimer’s disease.

The researchers are promoting the surgeons to decontaminate neurosurgical tools more keenly as a precautionary measure to reduce the potential risk of spreading abnormal proteins known to build up in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.
Alzheimer’s diseases estimated to affect more than half a million people in Britain. This is the condition that impairs memory and cognitive abilities and is caused by the buildup of toxic protein deposits in the brain. The two kinds of proteins one of them called amyloid beta plaques to form between the nerve cells and the other called tau proteins is found inside the nerve cells.

Still, furthermore research works are carried out to ensure if there is any link between these medical procedures and Alzheimer’s disease.

Future of robotic surgery!!!

Exploring the present status and picturizing the future goals!!!

Robotic surgery is one of the latest advancements in the field of medicine and has got the alternative name called “Minimally invasive” which means instead of operating the patients through large incision we can use the miniaturized small instruments which will help them in the shorter recovery.

The dream came to imagination!

During previous days robots were once thought as the far-off future the use of robotics and other advanced technology in the field of surgery has gained the greater importance.

Where does the robotic surgery come into action?

Robotic surgeries can be used in the many conditions such as hernia surgery, bladder surgery, cancer operations and others including gynecologic and cardiothoracic disorders.

Success rate of robotic surgery when compared to the other!!!

The risk factors in the field of the robotic surgery are like other types of open-heart surgery but the thing is that the success of the surgery depends on the patient’s previous medical history and the earlier surgical history with the surgeons.

To present your recent research works in the field of surgery kindly submit your abstracts.

Epilepsy surgery advancements: Eliminate seizures, improve patients’ memories

Seizures affect many of the brain function such as memory. Over the due course, the uncontrolled seizures can spread over the major areas of the brain and controlling them becomes very difficult. There comes the epilepsy surgery which can eliminate the seizures in some victims which no other treatment can claim nowadays. But the problem is that many people who are in the situation to undergo the surgery fails to receive the surgical evaluation.
When is surgery needed...?
·         Seizures start in one area of the brain (Focal onset epilepsy)
·         Medications are ineffective.
Advancements in epilepsy surgery
Many of the new imaging techniques and the advanced surgical procedures have reduced the risk of complications and other from epilepsy surgery to all-time lows.
·         Stereo electroencephalography-for the better recognition of seizures
·         Responsive neurostimulation-prevent seizures by sending the electrical impulses to the brain
·         Laser interstitial thermal therapy- burn away targeted tissue in the affected area of the brain
·        Closed- loop neurostimulation- implanting a device in the brain that monitors and decodes neural activity, but this procedure is still in the trial.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS

Surgical instrumentation is one of the important topics when discussing the field of surgery. As we know surgical instruments should be cleaned very carefully and we have many important parameters towards it. The success of surgery without the infection mostly depends on the technique through which we are sterilizing the equipment’s used for the surgery. Automated washer disinfectors are one of the important tools in cleaning the surgical instruments they work by both cleaning and disinfecting during the process cycle. It is also necessary that the surgical instruments are kept in the moisture condition after use to aid in the cleaning process. Pasteurization, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, super-oxidized water is some of the options for cleaning the surgical instruments and each option was found to have its own merits and demerits. Sterilization is the method of getting rid of the microbes and maintaining the aseptic condition. But usually while cleaning the surgical instruments dry heat or autoclaving are the commonly preferred methods. All the surgical instruments sterilization technique comes under the pre-operative preparations where all the necessary condition for the surgery are made to set up. Generally, there is two sources of infection during the surgery, exogenous and endogenous infection. Endogenous infection usually comes from the patient body itself. While the latter infections depend on the surrounding environment at which the surgery is carried out and the level of sterilization of the surgical instruments. Thus the staging of surgery prior to surgical techniques plays the important role.
