Let’s get to know about coronary revascularization: Complicated Surgical Procedure

Coronary revascularization is the process of restoring the blood flow to the heart. The surgical procedure involves introducing the new blood vessels around existing blockages which restores necessary blood flow to the cardiac muscle. Once the blood flow is re-introduced normal heart function may return in time.

Off-pump Coronary Revascularization Surgery

This is one of the new methods to eliminate the use of the heart-lung bypass machine in this technique heart continues to beat while the part of surgery is alone being stabilized.

The people who are benefited from the off-pump surgery include:

  • The patients who are over 70 years old
  • The patients with kidney and lung diseases
  • The patients with risk of stroke or carotid artery disease

Transmyocardial Revascularization (TMR)

The procedure to relieve the severe chest pain (angina) in very ill patients who are not suitable for bypass surgery or angioplasty. Usually, a small incision is made in the left breast to expose the heart muscles from outside.

Surgery and Infection-Mystery behind neurosurgery!

According to a recent study, the thing is that neurosurgery could spread protein linked to Alzheimer's disease.

According to a recent study, the thing is that neurosurgery could spread protein linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Certain researchers found that there may be rare chances for the cause of Alzheimer’s disease through certain proteins associated with the instruments in surgery. Surgical instruments used in neuro operations should be ensured that they are not contaminated with proteins related to Alzheimer’s disease.

The researchers are promoting the surgeons to decontaminate neurosurgical tools more keenly as a precautionary measure to reduce the potential risk of spreading abnormal proteins known to build up in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.
Alzheimer’s diseases estimated to affect more than half a million people in Britain. This is the condition that impairs memory and cognitive abilities and is caused by the buildup of toxic protein deposits in the brain. The two kinds of proteins one of them called amyloid beta plaques to form between the nerve cells and the other called tau proteins is found inside the nerve cells.

Still, furthermore research works are carried out to ensure if there is any link between these medical procedures and Alzheimer’s disease.

Future of robotic surgery!!!

Exploring the present status and picturizing the future goals!!!

Robotic surgery is one of the latest advancements in the field of medicine and has got the alternative name called “Minimally invasive” which means instead of operating the patients through large incision we can use the miniaturized small instruments which will help them in the shorter recovery.

The dream came to imagination!

During previous days robots were once thought as the far-off future the use of robotics and other advanced technology in the field of surgery has gained the greater importance.

Where does the robotic surgery come into action?

Robotic surgeries can be used in the many conditions such as hernia surgery, bladder surgery, cancer operations and others including gynecologic and cardiothoracic disorders.

Success rate of robotic surgery when compared to the other!!!

The risk factors in the field of the robotic surgery are like other types of open-heart surgery but the thing is that the success of the surgery depends on the patient’s previous medical history and the earlier surgical history with the surgeons.

To present your recent research works in the field of surgery kindly submit your abstracts.

GROWING HEALTH PROBLEMS AND SURGICAL TREATMENTS:

There are numerous health problems due to the changes in our lifestyle and they seem to be recovered by simple surgical procedures, in the below list some of the common disorders and their simple surgical procedures are depicted.
Appendicitis:
Appendix is the vestigial organ, in which the appendix is infected or inflamed. Generally, the inflamed appendix is removed either by minimally invasive surgical procedures or laparoscopy or by more traditional surgical procedures.

Biliary artresia :
The condition in which the green or brown liquid produced by the liver called bile does not empty from the liver due to the congenital malformation.
First of all this condition is diagnosed through the ultrasound and are later subjected to the surgery to reconstruct the bile ducts and reattach them to the liver.
Cancer:
Generally, the cancer treatment involves the use of the device called portocath which is commonly a catheter inserted into the vein to carry out the procedure of chemotherapy.
Hirschsprung’s disease:
In this case the normal nerves do not form that blocks the child’s ability to have normal bowel movement.
The treatment consists of surgery to remove the part of the colon that has enlarged and prevent the bowel movement.
Obesity:

Obesity is also the one of the important worldwide problem due to the changes in the lifestyle, the surgical treatment procedure to the obesity is bariatric surgical procedure in which the esophagus is narrowed by the adjustable balloon, so that the intake of food can be reduced.
Let’s meet at Surgeons Meet 2018, Bucharest, Romania.

BROKEN EYE SOCKET: SYMPTOMS AND SURGERY

The broken eye socket generally causes the intense pain, swelling and a black eye which becomes easier to recognize and diagnose.
Generally, the eye socket is the bony structure covering the eye and protecting it during various conditions. Most of the parts of the eyes are hard, thick and difficult to break while the other parts are fragile and more prone to breaking.

What is the broken eye socket?
The eye socket which is generally called the orbit, while it feels like the solid structure it consists of the seven different bones that connect to create the four different areas. During that time the fracture may happen at any of the parts of the eye socket it is generally called as the broken eye syndrome.

Surgery for broken eye socket?
Surgery for treating the broken eye socket is usually risky and is not always the best treatment method opted. In extreme cases where the surgery is mandatory, the surgeons usually start the surgical procedures when the swelling around the eye socket reduces.

Certain symptoms that indicate the surgical procedures are,
An eye that is pushed back into the eye socket after the several weeks of healing.
Lasting facial deformity
Vision changes or double vision problems.
Surgical procedures include:
Freeing the trapped muscles, ligaments or nerves.
Removing the bone fragments.

Repairing the deformities.

SINGLE INCISION SURGERY: MERITS AND DEMERITS:

Minimally invasive surgical procedures help the individual suffering from the wide range of challenging, painful, and life-limiting colorectal diseases. Many victims of the colorectal diseases have undergone many major surgical procedures and found to have difficult recovery time. Now this recent advancement single incision surgery can preserve the continence, bring faster recovery and the better cosmetic results such as scar less surgery.
How minimally invasive approaches proves to be effective in case of the colorectal surgery?
The recent advancements are single incision laparoscopic surgery and transanal minimally invasive surgery. By this technique the foot-long incision has reduced to the single one-inch incision. This is often carried out through the belly button leaving virtually no scars.
In simple way we can define single incision surgery as shorter hospital stay, better standard of living and less trauma to the body.
How does this procedure develop?
The single large incision was replaced literally with the 3-4 small incision this is how the minimally invasive surgical procedures developed and nowadays they are even more advanced with the robotics-assisted surgeries.
What is the recovery time?
With the help of the single incision surgery the patient with the inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and crohn’s diseases may have easier elimination and the better remission.
This kind of surgical procedures also proves to be good for the patients who are not healthy during the time of the surgical procedures such as cardiac, respiratory or other conditions. Other advancement in the field of the surgery includes percutaneous decompression, laser discectomy, and laminectomy.

Minimally invasive surgery also has some negative effects and it does not proves to be effective for all patients. Both the traditional and the minimally invasive surgical procedures have their own merits and demerits. The selection of mode of surgery depends on the prior medical history.

Epilepsy surgery advancements: Eliminate seizures, improve patients’ memories

Seizures affect many of the brain function such as memory. Over the due course, the uncontrolled seizures can spread over the major areas of the brain and controlling them becomes very difficult. There comes the epilepsy surgery which can eliminate the seizures in some victims which no other treatment can claim nowadays. But the problem is that many people who are in the situation to undergo the surgery fails to receive the surgical evaluation.
When is surgery needed...?
·         Seizures start in one area of the brain (Focal onset epilepsy)
·         Medications are ineffective.
Advancements in epilepsy surgery
Many of the new imaging techniques and the advanced surgical procedures have reduced the risk of complications and other from epilepsy surgery to all-time lows.
·         Stereo electroencephalography-for the better recognition of seizures
·         Responsive neurostimulation-prevent seizures by sending the electrical impulses to the brain
·         Laser interstitial thermal therapy- burn away targeted tissue in the affected area of the brain
·        Closed- loop neurostimulation- implanting a device in the brain that monitors and decodes neural activity, but this procedure is still in the trial.

Recent Trends in Surgery: Transplantation made easier

Nowadays as most of us know transplantation Surgery is one of the important lifesaving surgeries. There many parameters should be carefully analyzed before the surgical procedures are confirmed. Doctors and Surgeons all around the globe have performed many types of transplantation surgery including the reproductive organ and the limbs to save the life of many people and help them in improving the standard of living. Some of the important and rare transplantation Surgeries performed includes

  • Womb replacement surgery
  • Ovary transplants
  • Double limb transplant
  • Toe-to-Thumb transplant
  • Fully synthetic organ transplant and others

Scientist who involved in the synthetic trachea transplant also said that the same synthetic technology transplant can be used for the other transplantation techniques also, but it is not suitable all the time because all the other organs are more complex than the trachea. Certain parameters to be performed include blood test to detect the antibodies between the donor and the recipients. Usually if the blood test is considered to be positive it is followed by the tissue typing and the cross-matching. Usually panel reactive antibody testing is also considered to detect the immune system reactivity. Among the various improvement in the field of surgery transplantation surgery is one of the important practice and found to save the life of many diseased individuals and in some occasions of trauma conditions. Surgeons who performs the transplantation surgeries is also aware of the patients pre and the post-operative treatment and found to have regular monitoring over the patient’s health condition in upcoming days.

What is surgical oncology?

As we know oncology is one of the wide field that deals with the development of the cancer. Long back ago, Surgery was the only treatment for cancer with the wide number of surgeons pushing their wide streams of knowledge to explore new things. Only in the last few years we have developed the techniques which we use along with the surgical oncological procedures. Despite the development in the radiation technique and others surgery is the only best way to remove the solid tumor mass. Surgery alone cannot be more effective but now a days clubbing of the surgery with new targeted techniques like molecular therapies, poly chemotherapy and radiation therapy also proves to be the effective one. Surgical Oncologists are just more than a surgeon and knows to deal with all specialties related to the cancer treatment. This is the way how they become more specialized among the Surgeons.

The techniques used in the Surgical oncology includes,
·                   Minimally invasive cancer surgery
·         Sentinel node biopsy
·         Robotic Surgery
·         Intraoperative chemotherapy and radiation therapy
·         Reconstructive Surgery

SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS

Surgical instrumentation is one of the important topics when discussing the field of surgery. As we know surgical instruments should be cleaned very carefully and we have many important parameters towards it. The success of surgery without the infection mostly depends on the technique through which we are sterilizing the equipment’s used for the surgery. Automated washer disinfectors are one of the important tools in cleaning the surgical instruments they work by both cleaning and disinfecting during the process cycle. It is also necessary that the surgical instruments are kept in the moisture condition after use to aid in the cleaning process. Pasteurization, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, super-oxidized water is some of the options for cleaning the surgical instruments and each option was found to have its own merits and demerits. Sterilization is the method of getting rid of the microbes and maintaining the aseptic condition. But usually while cleaning the surgical instruments dry heat or autoclaving are the commonly preferred methods. All the surgical instruments sterilization technique comes under the pre-operative preparations where all the necessary condition for the surgery are made to set up. Generally, there is two sources of infection during the surgery, exogenous and endogenous infection. Endogenous infection usually comes from the patient body itself. While the latter infections depend on the surrounding environment at which the surgery is carried out and the level of sterilization of the surgical instruments. Thus the staging of surgery prior to surgical techniques plays the important role.

ROBOT ASSISTED SURGERY: A MODERN APPROACH TO CONVENTIONAL SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

Robotics or Robot-assisted surgery integrates the use of advanced computer technology with the experience of the skilled surgery professionals. This technology provides the surgeon with a 10x magnification, high definition, 3D- image of the body’s inner anatomy.

The surgeons generally use controls in the console to manipulate the specific surgical instruments that are smaller as well as more flexible and accurate than the human hand. The reason why the robotics-assisted surgery came into the picture is to minimize the limitations of the pre-existing minimally invasive surgery and to enhance the efficiency of the surgeons who perform the conventional open surgery. The three important cardiac surgery performed by means of the robot-assisted techniques is Atrial septal defect repair, Mitral valve repair, and coronary artery bypass. Robot-assisted surgery proves it incredible use in the field of the gynecological surgery. Gynecological procedure taken place with robot-assisted surgery may reduce the hospital stays the best example for the short hospital stays may be proven in case of the hysterectomy. Certain researchers are also carried out for its use in the field of spine surgery procedures. Surgical robotics techniques are also used in the field of pediatrics to perform various types of surgery for example hernia repair surgery and many others.
